In December 2008, the FDA recalled many diet pill products being sold under the guise of supplements. Supplements are not subject to FDA approval unless and until they become dangerous to the public. One of the companies on the FDA recall list was Super Slim, makers of Super Slim and Super Slim Pomegranate. While the label of Super Slim Pomegranate lists innocuous, natural ingredients, because of the company's reckless disregard for the health of the public, the FDA believes that it may not be completely truthful and has warned against this product. The Super Slim cooperation is known to use ingredients identified as dangerous by the FDA.
Meridia is a prescription drug that should never be available over-the-counter. Its side-effects include anxiety, abdominal pain, dry mouth, constipation, depression, insomnia, back and joint pain, nausea and flu-like symptoms, dizziness, increase in or loss of appetite, rash, excessive menstrual pain, nervousness, nasal and sinus inflammation, loss of strength and acid indigestion.
Rimonabant is a drug that was never approved by the United States FDA, though it is used and accessible in Europe and has already been linked to five European deaths.
Pheytoin is a prescription anti-seizure medication that was discovered in diet pills in doses even larger than those prescribed for seizure patients. It was included, presumably, to counteract the possible seizures caused by sibutramine.
Sibutramine is a controlled substance that may cause seizures, palpitations, tachycardia and high blood pressure leading to stroke or heart attack. Taking sibutramine can also cause unknown reactions with other medications.
Phenolphthalein is listed by the FDA is a suspected carcinogen, which means that it is believed to cause cancer. It has been declared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as unfit for human consumption
